What GLP-1 does
GLP-1 is naturally released after eating and influences several processes in the body. Medicines acting on the GLP-1 receptor can increase satiety and reduce energy intake, but their pharmacology is more complex than simply “suppressing appetite”.
Semaglutide, liraglutide and tirzepatide
Semaglutide is used in Wegovy, which is authorised in the EU for weight management in defined patient groups. Liraglutide is the active ingredient in Saxenda. Tirzepatide in Mounjaro acts on two receptors, GIP and GLP-1.
