How injectable obesity treatment works

Modern medicines can influence satiety, appetite and other metabolic pathways. They are used alongside nutrition, physical activity and other sustainable lifestyle measures rather than as a replacement for them.

Products differ in active ingredient, mechanism, dosing, contraindications and adverse effects. Choosing a medicine based only on a brand name or another person’s experience is not safe.

Who may be eligible

For some medicines authorised in the EU, adult weight-management treatment is indicated from a BMI of 30 kg/m², or from 27 to under 30 kg/m² when at least one weight-related comorbidity is present. These are regulatory criteria, not an automatic entitlement to treatment.

Safety and sourcing

Prescription medicines should be obtained through a legal supply chain after appropriate clinical assessment. Unverified websites, marketplaces and social media offers can expose people to counterfeit products, poor storage or uncertain ingredients.
